STEVE SMITH ENDOWMENT

The Steve Smith Endowment will provide a financial base for the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation, giving it the ability to embark on projects, programs, and services bolstering the mission of the Foundation in its goal of supporting the needs of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.  The Endowment was created by AGFF Board Member Witt Stephens, who announced a challenge gift for the fund, vowing to match every dollar raised up to $150,000!   Please click on the link below to make your gift.

 

Steve Smith served as president of the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation for 25 years.  During his tenure, Steve guided many foundation projects, including the purchase of the Robinwood addition to Wattensaw Wildlife Management Area, the purchase of a 421-acre tract for Fred Berry Conservation Education Center on Crooked Creek, and the development of the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Shooting Sports Complex in Jacksonville. Steve passed away March 22, 2017, at the age of 70.

AGFF Commissioners' Cup

The Tournament

2019 marks the first year of the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation’s Commissioners’ Cup High School Bass Fishing Tournament presented by Xpress Boats. The two-day tournament will take place June 1 – 2 on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, AR. All participants will fish two days – no cuts! Launch and weigh-in will take place at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Andrew H. Hulsey State Hatchery (350 Fish Hatchery Road, Hot Springs, AR 71913).

 

The Participants

 

Participants will consist of teams of two (2) High School anglers (Grades 9 -12) and their boat captain.

There are 3 ways to qualify for the Commissioners’ Cup:

 

  1. Finish in the Top 20 in one of Arkansas’s Major Youth Bass Fishing Circuits – defined as those circuits having more than 20 teams per season participating.

  2. Finish in the Top 5 in one of Arkansas’s Smaller Youth Bass Fishing Circuits – defined as those circuits having less than 20 boats per season participating.

  3. Finish in Top Place in your High School Season Standings – the Grand Champion or Top Finishing team in each High School in Arkansas

* At least one angler on each team must reside in the state of Arkansas

 

** Names of participants and captains must be submitted by email to Deke Whitbeck (deke@agff.org) no later than 5pm Sunday, May 19, 2019. After submittals are reviewed, final determination for participation will be left exclusively to the Commissioners’ Cup Tournament Committee. Circuit Directors will be notified no later than Tuesday, May 21, 2019, with invitations to the tournament.

Prizes will include scholarship money, trophy, gear and tackle, recognition in the AGFC Fishing Guidebook as well as recognition at the annual Arkansas Outdoor Hall of Fame Banquet.
